Nicola Tirabasso (1993) is a musician (VISIO) and visual artist based in London.
He holds a BA in Media Design from NABA in Milan and an MA in Moving Image & Artist Film from Goldsmiths, University of London. Tirabasso has been an integral part of Macao in Milan, the founder of Nocturnal Reflections and Club Mutante, and a former curator of the DEMO Moving Image Festival. As a freelance graphic designer, he has collaborated with clients such as Cav Empt, AD93, 4AD, PAN, Empty Gallery, Haunter Records, Versace, Nike, New Balance, VTSS, Slam Jam, Halcyon Veil and more.
His artistic practice investigates the arcane boundaries between reality and the inexplicable, much like a modern antiquarian. Drawing from fictional imaginaries, he reworks them into deconstructed universes through varied practices. Folk symbolic traditions, new technology, and internet mythologies are central to his approach. Deliberate anachronism and inauthenticity play crucial roles, highlighting both the real and distorted nature of the realities he explores. His work questions authenticity, embracing the interplay between truth and fiction while navigating the blurred boundaries that shape contemporary narratives.
Tirabasso has exhibited his works in institutions and museums such as the ICA in London, Lafayette Anticipations in Paris, Cripta747 in Turin, Spazio Maiocchi, Fondazione Elpis in Milan, Camden Arts Centre, Das Lot in Vienna, and others. In September 2022, his solo album Privacy Angels was released via Haunter Records, followed by a solo exhibition titled Fools Circle 9wys in January 2024, curated by Threes Productions. VISIO is part of the SHAPE+ 2023/2024 artist roster.
